Historical data shows that the first football club in the Mid Mountains was established in 1958 by Mr Stan Bignall, a teacher from Katoomba High School. This was known as Hazelbrook Youth Club. He organised two teams of boys for an Under 14 years competition and the children travelled from Katoomba and surrounding areas to play at Gloria Park.
Hazelbrook Soccer Club grew from this youth Club in the 1970’s and was formed with the view of establishing a family atmosphere for its members. Those values are still prominent in the Club today. Hazelbrook FC was firstly affiliated with the Lithgow District Competition and then moved over to Nepean FA in the early 1980’s.
Our Club was devastated in 1997 when vandals destroyed our Clubhouse at Gloria Park. The fire not only took away our Clubhouse and the facilities we needed to run the Club and host games at Gloria Park, but it also destroyed expensive equipment, records and memorabilia. With the wonderful support of the local community, businesses and the football fraternity we were able to rebuild our “Hawks Nest” now classified as one of the most picturesque grounds in NSW.
The Hazelbrook Hawks hope to provide the youth of the area with the opportunity and encouragement to play the game of football at the highest level possible, fostering the individual character and skills of its members whilst nurturing a community spirit.
